Two Old Grandpas Walk Into VidCon — Here's What Happened

You might be wondering why two old guys showed up at VidCon. Fair question. We asked

ourselves the same thing somewhere around the second hour of standing in the registration line.

But we came for real reasons: to meet other creators, to get inspired, and — let's be honest — to figure out some smart, strategic ways to grow this little channel of ours.

So, we packed our comfiest shoes, braced our poor grandpa feet, and headed to Anaheim for three days at the biggest gathering of online creators in the world. Here's how it went.

Day One: Know Your Worth (and Watch the Lines)

Day one started a little rocky — registration wasn't quite ready, and if you know Grandpa Scott, you know he doesn't love a long line. But it worked out, and once we were in, the energy hit us

like a wave.

Thousands of people from all over, an exhibition floor so enormous and so loud you

couldn't hear yourself think, and costumes everywhere you looked.

Our first session was all about knowing your worth as a content creator — a surprisingly

meaningful place to start. Then the best moment of the whole day happened: one of our own subscribers, Teresa, found us with her family. A hug, a photo, and a reminder of why we do any of this. If you ever spot us out in the wild, please come say hi. It genuinely makes our day.

And yes — we'll admit it. We were almost certainly the oldest people in the building. But we were young at heart, and everyone made us feel welcome.

Day Two: Flowers, Coffee, and Money That Grows on Trees

Rested feet and fresh coffee — that's how day two began.

We even met another subscriber first thing, a lovely woman originally from England who now runs a food truck here in the States.

And speaking of food trucks, the variety of available food here was great, everything from Mexican to Moroccan, Vegan to the thinnest crust pizza we’ve had outside Italy.

The sessions were the heart of it. We sat in on up-close mentoring talks, and large group

sessions, wandered through a YouTube room decked out in flowers that was subliminally all about channel growth, and Grandpa Bobby even tried to catch money falling from a tree. Let’s just say he isn’t quitting the day job anytime soon!

Between the learning sessions, we kept meeting other creators — every type you can imagine, from travelers, to gamers — and swapping stories. That's the part we didn't expect to love as much as we did. Sometimes you just have to dance like no one's watching.

Day Three: A Very Special Guest

Day three came with a surprise sitting right next to us: our grandson Cody. Cody's actually the first grandkid to ever travel on our adventures with us, and he'd been asking his parents to bring him to VidCon for ages. He joined us for the whole day — and we quickly discovered he's a bit of a shopaholic. That kid found every merch booth in the building.

Cody enjoyed the exhibition hall immensely, especially the gaming portion. He even attended a session on creating animation videos, so be on the lookout for new material from him! "VidCon was fun"; he told us. Spoken like a true creator-in-training!

Would We Do It Again?

Absolutely. Here's what three days taught us: chill out on day one, because registration takes a while. Rest your feet whenever you can. And keep your heart open — because whether you're cruising the Mediterranean, hiking a trail, or navigating a sea of Gen Z creators, it's all just another adventure.

Honestly, VidCon felt a lot like travel. Three or four floors of sights, sessions, and food stands — a bit like being on a cruise ship, with about as much walking as a good long hike. And even as the oldest folks in the room, we were made to feel like we belonged. That's the whole lesson: show up with a good attitude, go with the flow, and you'll fit in just fine.

Next time? We're coming back as presenters. (You hearing that, VidCon?) We're putting it out into the universe.

So here's our question for you: based on everything you saw, what's your biggest takeaway — and what would you like to see us do next? Drop it in the comments. We read every one.
